A Golden A' Design Award winner reveals the power of questioning inherited design assumptions
Consumer research transformed a wasted faucet bench into award-winning innovation.
The narrow ledge where your kitchen faucet mounts represents some of the most valuable real estate in modern homes. Primagran, a Polish family company with fourteen years of granite sink expertise, recognized what others overlooked: that modest strip could transform from architectural afterthought into organized workspace. The New York 60 Multispace sink emerged from extensive consumer surveys revealing what home cooks actually wanted near their workspace. The resulting Multispace system offers dual organized zones for utensils, herbs, dishwashing essentials, and a dedicated cutting board drying slot. Integrated vertical drainage prevents water buildup while slim, sloping edges simplify cleaning. Every element addresses specific friction points that users articulated during Primagran's research phase, maximizing every millimeter of available space.
The precision required to execute the Multispace vision proved as demanding as the concept itself. Cups that nestle into designated positions needed to sit perfectly flush with sink edges, a manufacturing challenge requiring months of refinement in composite granite. Prototype units went into actual kitchens where families provided candid feedback on organizer placement and drainage efficiency. The patience embedded in nearly a year of development from concept to November 2024 launch resulted in a fixture that earned Golden recognition from the A' Design Award, a distinction the jury reserves for creations demonstrating extraordinary excellence. Kitchen brands examining Primagran's approach will find a template worth studying: begin with genuine user research rather than designer assumptions, question conventions that everyone accepts without examination, and invest the time required for flawless execution.
Every product category contains its own version of the faucet bench. Some feature sits neglected because everyone assumes limitations rather than investigating possibilities. The New York 60 Multispace demonstrates what emerges when brands approach familiar objects with genuine curiosity and rigorous research. What structural necessity in your own product line might be hiding untapped functional potential?
