Inflatable packaging transforms a thermos cup into a floating astronaut that continues the museum experience.

A thermos cup sits inside a transparent bag. Air fills the space around it, and suddenly an astronaut appears to float in zero gravity. The Planetarium merchandise collection by Alan Guo for Beijing Planetarium demonstrates something profound about packaging design: containment can become context. The inflatable bag does not merely protect the product during transport. The inflation transforms visual perception entirely, converting a screen-printed astronaut into a weightless explorer suspended in space. What makes the approach remarkable is its simplicity. Screen printing on a 25x40cm inflatable bag requires no exotic materials or complex manufacturing. The technique combines familiar production methods in unexpected configurations to create experiential moments that standard rigid packaging cannot achieve. Beijing Planetarium visitors encounter products that extend their astronomical journey beyond the building's walls.

Alan Guo developed the collection around a single conceptual anchor: the Voyager spacecraft's photograph of Earth as a pale blue dot. Every product in the series interprets cosmic perspective differently. The tote bag requires users to grip tightly, symbolizing the responsibility of holding an astronaut's lifeline.
