Cafe Lusso in Seoul offers a compelling proposition for brands investing in physical space: select materials for how surfaces will transform through years of human touch. Designed by 21 Gram Co., Ltd. and completed in March 2024, the 230 square meter space in Mapo-gu occupies a skyscraper district yet channels the philosophy of Jean-Jacques Rousseau's return to nature. The design team, led by Seung-man Lee and Se-been Choi, devoted 26 square meters to living gardens scattered throughout seating areas. Wood surfaces will darken where palms rest habitually. Stone will develop gentle polish from countless elbows and fingertips. Brick absorbs subtle variations of moisture and temperature across seasons. The project treats material transformation as brand narrative, accumulating visible history with each passing year. Interior finishes become appreciating assets that mature alongside the business itself.

Curved fabric partitions stretch over bent steel frames inspired by traditional Korean Zelkova trees that once shaded village entrances.
