K11 MUSEA's Golden A' Design Award winning book embodies discovery through unconventional format and exquisite craft
Unconventional book format becomes brand ambassador when design decisions align with brand values.
Something remarkable happens when a brand commits to creating a publication that physically embodies its values. The object transcends marketing collateral and becomes something worth keeping, displaying, and discussing. Consider how retail destinations and cultural spaces communicate experiential qualities. Photography captures moments. Written descriptions provide context. A thoughtfully designed book, however, can translate spatial experience into portable form, recreating wonder with every page turn. K11 MUSEA, the Hong Kong cultural destination known for advocating contemporary art and design, understood this opportunity when commissioning Toby Ng Design to create Inside Muses. The resulting publication earned the Golden A' Design Award in Print and Published Media Design, demonstrating how strategic print design extends brand presence far beyond physical walls, creating touchpoints that sustain engagement in recipients' homes and offices.
Inside Muses organizes content around four thematic pillars defining the destination: Architecture, Furniture, Nature, and Art. Circle graphics on the cover represent these sensuous spheres before readers open the first page. The regular edition features hand-sewn binding, communicating artisanal quality through tactile experience. The executive edition encases the book in a premium clear acrylic box reminiscent of museum vitrines displaying precious objects. Recipients receive the publication not as marketing material but as something worth preserving. The unconventional format leads readers on what the designers describe as a journey of adventure and new perspectives at every turn. Every structural choice mirrors K11 MUSEA's positioning as a place of sensory discovery. When format, materials, and construction align with brand values, the publication demonstrates rather than merely describes what the brand represents.
Brands investing in publications often default to informational catalogs that communicate facts but miss strategic opportunity. Inside Muses shows what becomes possible when every design decision reinforces brand positioning. Physical publications earn permanent placement where digital content disappears. What narrative would your enterprise tell if the medium itself could speak?
