Pop Star by Li Hao Transforms Perception into Landmark Architecture

Fifteen Meter Icosahedron Installation Demonstrates Philosophy Driven Design for Enterprise Placemaking

Geometric installations rooted in genuine philosophical inquiry create deeper brand associations.

Humans possess only three types of cone cells in their eyes. Birds have four. Insects have compound eyes made of hexagonal units. We are, in a sense, all colorblind to aspects of existence that other beings perceive clearly. Li Hao embedded this fascinating observation into fifteen meters of steel when creating Pop Star, a monumental icosahedron-based installation in Shanghai that functions simultaneously as sculpture, architecture, and viewing platform. The structure deliberately exceeds what the designer calls human visual reading scale, creating the sensation of encountering something from another dimension entirely. Visitors approach the faceted geometric form and feel awed by its precision and mass. They enter the hollow interior and discover something unexpected: a quiet, protected space for observing the surrounding environment through geometric frames. The same structure delivers contrasting experiences within minutes, which is precisely the kind of experiential richness that transforms commercial developments into cultural destinations.

The mechanism here deserves attention from enterprises investing in public space transformation. Pop Star channels transcendentalist philosophy. Li Hao draws on Ralph Waldo Emerson's observation that the world globes itself in a drop of dew, enlarging a tiny compound eye structure into a behemoth that visitors can physically occupy. The installation earned the Golden A' Design Award in Fine Arts and Art Installation Design, recognition that validates how philosophical grounding combined with geometric boldness produces work meeting high standards of creative excellence. For brand managers and creative directors evaluating public art commissions, the strategic insight is direct: installations that ask meaningful questions generate organic conversation and media coverage because they provide genuine intellectual value. Journalists write about the ideas. Social media posts gain depth beyond mere aesthetic appreciation. The installation becomes a thinking space that creates lasting association with the commissioning organization.

The consistent principle across successful public installations is that genuine inquiry creates experiential richness. When visitors encounter structures embodying real ideas, they receive real value. One Take Architects describes their philosophy as creating activating ephemeral architectures, usually small and beautiful, but capable of leveraging something really big. Pop Star proves that statement through fifteen meters of philosophy made physical.
