Golden A' Design Award winning workplace demonstrates tribal cohesion for consolidating business units
A shared visual vocabulary accomplishes what organizational memos rarely achieve.
Five different business units, each with distinct workflows and territorial habits, suddenly sharing a single floor. DB and B Pte Ltd tackled this exact scenario when designing BD's Hype Tribe in Singapore, a Golden A' Design Award winning project that transforms consolidation into cultural opportunity. The designers understood something profound: physical environments communicate values more powerfully than any email announcement or town hall presentation. DB and B elevated workplace design by creating what they call "one common language" through material choices and spatial planning. The material palette, spatial proportions, and experiential pathways all participate in a coherent vocabulary that speaks to every occupant equally. When employees from previously separate divisions encounter consistent visual cues throughout their workday, belonging becomes embodied experience.
The project reveals its brilliance in treating movement itself as design material. DB and B mapped what they call "experiential journeys" connecting reception areas to co-working cafes, ensuring employees from different units cross paths naturally. Biophilic elements including wood surfaces and living plants create sensory experiences that transcend departmental boundaries. Cafe-inspired zones evoke informal interaction where unexpected collaborations emerge. Suspended acoustic panels introduce dynamic energy suggesting flow and vitality. The neighbourhooding approach provides team identity within the larger whole, and employees return to familiar neighborhoods maintaining spatial relationships that support effective work. For enterprises navigating mergers, restructuring, or growth, BD's Hype Tribe demonstrates that physical workspace serves as strategic infrastructure for cultural integration.
The recognition BD's Hype Tribe received from the A' Design Award validates what the project demonstrates: thoughtful workplace design accomplishes cultural unification with remarkable effectiveness. Physical environments shape human experience in ways digital tools complement yet cannot replicate. What common language does your organization's workspace speak to its occupants?
