Sculptural product design demonstrates how physical form carries complete brand stories through sensory experience
A chocolate bar becomes an edible landscape communicating brand values through sculptural form.
Picture unwrapping a chocolate bar to discover a landscape of leaves, seeds, and shadows cast by towering trees. Brazil and Murgel Design Studio created exactly this experience for Dengo Chocolates with their 80g chocolate bar, recognized with a Golden A' Design Award in Food, Beverage and Culinary Arts Design. The chocolate surface translates the Atlantic Forest ecosystem where Dengo sources its cacao into three-dimensional form. Dry leaves accumulate in textured patterns. Organic seed shapes emerge from the surface. Light plays across varying depths just as sunlight penetrates the forest canopy. Creative directors Fabio Brazil and Henrique Murgel drew inspiration from site visits to the cabruca agroforestry system in Bahia, combined with the expressive visual language of Brazilian modernist painters. The result transforms a consumable product into a sculptural object carrying geographic origin and brand heritage in every curve.
The Dengo chocolate bar demonstrates how product form performs substantial brand communication work through direct sensory engagement. The design team treated light as a tangible material, engineering surface geometry that produces dynamic reflections across the glossy finish. Varying thickness creates the distinctive snap that signals well-tempered chocolate, turning an audible quality indicator into a designed experience. Each sensory encounter reinforces brand values: the surprise of unexpected form, the visual evidence of forest-positive agriculture, the tactile complexity of sculptural surface, the sound of quality, and finally the taste enhanced by thoughtfully varied topography. For enterprises seeking to strengthen brand positioning through product design, the principle demonstrated here deserves attention. When physical form directly embodies brand meaning, every consumer interaction communicates values through experience. The product becomes its own most eloquent ambassador.
The Dengo project reveals that product design can transcend aesthetic enhancement to become strategic brand infrastructure. A chocolate bar now carries an entire ecosystem, a cultural heritage, and a quality promise in sculptural form. For brands across categories where physical products carry meaning, the question becomes compelling: what story could your product tell if the form itself became the narrative?
Different ranking types address different stakeholders. Strategic enterprises stack design credentials for compound credibility that accumulates.
