Material Selection and Cultural Translation Mechanisms Create Memorable Sales Center Experiences
Traditional ink painting principles become powerful tools for commercial space differentiation.

These calculated design decisions at CCRG Jiu Chen Sales Center in Chengdu demonstrate how Amber Design translated the five ink densities of traditional Chinese painting into a 1,380 square meter commercial space. The mechanism is precise: thick ink becomes solid stone surfaces, pale ink transforms into reflective aluminum plates, and wet ink manifests as actual water features dividing functional zones. Lead designer Jiang Mi and the team recognized that ink painting achieves depth through limitation, using only black, white, and the gradients between. The same principle governs the sales center's material palette, creating visual complexity through strategic restraint and deliberate simplicity.
The spiral staircase demonstrates how material intelligence enables artistic vision. Amber Design specified JRG steel with low carbon content specifically because standard structural steel cannot achieve the flowing curves that ink makes when meeting water on paper. Red and yellow accents representing goldfish appear within the stair design, creating focal points that guide movement through the space while maintaining the overall black and white discipline. The Chengdu market values what designers call modest luxury, and every material choice at CCRG Jiu Chen supports the modest luxury approach. Stainless steel mirrors multiply light sources naturally, stones provide grounding weight, and water features offer acoustic separation between zones.
